Communications Assistant (part-time, 10 hours a week)

Calvin Presbyterian Church is seeking an experienced support staff person to join us in Forming Community, Transforming Lives, and Reforming Our World. This individual is responsible for assisting with internal and external communications alongside the Support Ministries Director. The successful candidate carries out these functions on a consistent and regular schedule, working onsite or remotely, to serve the needs of church staff, guests, volunteers, and congregants.

Responsibilities:

  • Updating Church Website:  Assist in maintaining the church website, with particular focus on updating webpages and on editing and uploading video and audio files. Manage social media sites, creating graphics as needed and posting relevant church news.
  • Facilitating Church Communication:  Answer email queries and forward as appropriate. Enter, update, and retrieve database information on individuals and families accurately and consistently. Create mailings, including folding, labeling, metering, and delivering to post office or bulk mail office. Assist with weekly email newsletter, including writing and/or editing announcements and creating accompanying graphics.
  • Preparing Worship Materials: Compile, format, and produce weekly worship bulletin, including printing copies and uploading PDF to church website. Finalize and print memorial service and other special service bulletins. Create and update announcement PowerPoint slides for worship services.

Core Competencies: 

  • Mission Ownership: Willingness to embrace Calvin Church’s vision, mission, and core values, and to enthusiastically promote them to others.
  • Software Proficiencies: Demonstrates basic ability to use Microsoft Office Suite, WordPress, MailChimp, Adobe Creative Cloud programs, and other productivity software. Able to gain working knowledge of member database (Servant Keeper), online calendaring systems, and social media platforms.
  • Office Equipment Proficiencies: Able to operate all Calvin Church office equipment (e.g., printers, copiers, folding machine, postage metering machine). Know appropriate troubleshooting, maintenance, and basic repair procedures for all office equipment. Be able to perform basic computer maintenance (e.g., updating software, rebooting) and network resets (e.g., server, cable modem, phone system).
